Autumn turns Almindingen and the rift valleys golden. In the state forests you may forage mushrooms for your own use — chanterelles from late summer, followed by the prized porcini (Karl Johan). The areas around Rø Plantage and Døndalen are ideal grounds.
Along the roadsides stand harvest stalls with pumpkins, apples, potatoes, honey and jam — local, fresh and affordable.

In September the 10-day Bornholm Culture Week runs with concerts, theatre and art. Over six weeks (Sep–Oct) the Bornholm Craft Weeks open the workshops of the island's artisans with special exhibitions.
During the Danish autumn holidays (week 42) Halloween is celebrated in style — with pumpkins and straw mazes in Gudhjem, Nexø, Hasle and Rønne. Woods invite chestnut gathering, and attractions like NaturBornholm are open.
Many smokehouses and restaurants stay open into autumn. Warm smoked fish — smoked herring, the classic Sol over Gudhjem — tastes especially good in the cooler season. Some small cafés do close at season's end.
The year-round route Ystad–Rønne from Sweden runs reliably, as does the connection from Køge in Denmark. The Sassnitz ferry from Germany is seasonal, usually running into December. Autumn storms can cause occasional cancellations.
By bike and hiking boots — the coastal trail Kyststien and the upland trail Højlyngstien lead through the loveliest autumn landscapes. For longer stretches in grim weather a rental car is practical.
